9/7/2007 8:03:16 PM

Caroline Voelkel and Colleen Callaghan each scored goals to propel the Lynx to a 2-0 upset victory over 4th ranked Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons University, in Marshall, TX on the campus of East Texas Baptist University.

Senior captain Caroline Voelkel scored her 3rd goal of 2007 in the 38th minute when junior forward Melanie Sharry beat a defender, attacked the HSU goal and slotted the ball across the 6yd box for Voelkel to knock home. Voelkel and Sharry have connected on 3 of the Lynx 5 goals of the 2007 season to this point. Voelkel's goal was also her 2nd game-winner of the season. The Lynx would hold their one goal lead heading into the break.

The Lynx completed the scoring in the 65th minute when freshman midfielder Alice Hilgart helped a corner kick reach sophomore defender Colleen Callaghan at the top of the penalty area which she struck first-time past the cowgirls keeper aided by a crafty screen by junior midfielder Kara Purdy.

The Lynx ended HSU's 33 game regular season unbeaten streak with a strong defensive effort led by junior defender Lizzie Wright who effectively shut down the cowgirls All-American forward Amy Kuykendall. Sophomore goalkeeper Becca Clarin earned her 2nd shutout of the season.

Rhodes improves to 2-1 on the season and will face East Texas Baptist University tomorrow, in a 7 pm match.
